Alprazolam (Xanax)
A relatively shorter-acting benzodiazepine used for certain anxiety and panic conditions. Symptoms between doses may be a concern for some people.
Clonazepam (Klonopin)
A longer-acting benzodiazepine used in certain seizure and panic disorders. Longer action does not eliminate withdrawal risk.
Diazepam (Valium)
A long-acting benzodiazepine with active metabolites. It has a historical role in some clinician-managed taper approaches, but switching is not suitable for everyone.
Lorazepam (Ativan)
Used in selected anxiety and other clinical settings. Dependence and withdrawal risk depend on individual factors.
Other medications
Chlordiazepoxide, oxazepam, temazepam, triazolam, and clobazam have distinct clinical uses and pharmacological characteristics. Ask your pharmacist for medication-specific information.
